Oahu - The heart of Hawaii
Most of you will probably land on Oahu or the metropolis Honolulu. In my opinion this is the ideal place to acclimatize. In downtown you have the chance to visit the only royal palace in the USA.
One of the most famous is Waikiki, where you can also find the famous beach - even if it is by far not the most beautiful one for my taste. Directly at the sea, hotels are lined up and along Kalakaua Avenue life is raging. Diamond Head, the island's landmark, is enthroned at the southern end of Waikiki.
Pearl Harbor is located in the north of Honolulu. The place reminds the Hawaiians of the most painful event in American history.
Once you leave the city behind and explore the rest of the island, dream beaches, rainforests and pineapple fields dominate the landscape.
Especially worth seeing is the North Shore, where in winter waves up to 10 meters high thunder onto the shore and the best surfers in the world perform daring maneuvers. In summer, however, the sea is often smooth and you can swim here with honus (Hawaiian for turtle).
The hilly region in the interior of the island offers some hiking trails through the rainforest and from the peaks you have fantastic views over the island.
